Jr. Guard Camp will educate children about surf safety, develop beach awareness, and learn skills to understand the risk of the ocean. This camp is offered 2 separate weeks in the summer.

Jr. Guard Competition Team is a program geared toward rescuing skills and competition. This is for the junior who has great water skills, strong swimming and is looking to perfect the sport of surf racing.

Tuesdays & Thursdays starting June 25th

Requirements: 11 -12 years olds - Swim 300 meters in 8:00 minutes or less and run 1/2 miles in 4:30 minutes or less

13 - 15 year olds - Swim 300 meters in 7:30 minutes or less and run 1/2 mile in 4:15 minutes or less

Additional testing will be in the 100 meter swim and 100 meter dash. 

LOCATION: 34th Street Beach

AGES: 11 - 12 years old / 13 - 15 years old

Rules:

1. Helmets, elbow pads, and knee pads are required at all times when skateboarding.

2. Skateboard Park will be closed during inclement weather and/or when equipment is damaged, wet, or for routine maintenance.

3. Skateboard Park is for skateboards ONLY. Bikes, scooters, roller skates/blades are prohibited.

4. No food or glass in the skateboarding area.

5. Parental supervision for inexperienced skateboarders and those less than 12 years of age is strongly recommended. 

6. No amplified sound is permitted except by permit.

7. No defacing of property with stickers, paint, wax, markers, etc.

8. Skateboarding is prohibited on the adjacent parking lots, sidewalks, and streets.

9. Proper behavior is required at all times. Abusive, profane language, or aggressive behavior such as fighting or bullying will not be tolerated.

10. The use of drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products is strictly prohibited.

11. Rules violations will result in the suspension of skateboarding privileges. 

12. Unsafe conditions should be reported to the City of Ocean City's Department of Community Services' Recreation Division at 609-525-9304

Meet the Instructor

Willie Fannon - Willie has been actively skateboarding since the age of 9 and has 31 years of skateboard experience. He has a background in Street Skating with a newfound love of skating at skateparks. Willie has skated all over the country and has been teaching people how to skate for over 10 years. In addition to being a skateboarding instructor, Willie also teaches people how to surf & paddleboard. Willie hopes to see you at the Ocean City Skatepark!!!

Join us to learn how to skate! Our camps are set up for all skill levels. We go over the fundamentals of skateboarding and safety while having some fun! Each camp has a 5 to 1 skater to instructor ratio to ensure everyone is in on the fun! We recommend each camper bring a water or drink.

Camp activities include acting games, song and dance workshops, trips to the Music Pier for the Tuesday morning Children's Series, and participation in a fully staged musical, "AMERICAN SONG!"

Perfect for celebrating America's 250th Birthday, this musical revue honors the American spirit through cherished patriotic melodies and captivating original compositions. Featured songs include "The Star-Spangled Banner", "We the People", "Big Dreams", "Give My Regards to Cohan", "I Shall Not Be Moved", "Soldier", "This Song I Sing for You", "Hold On to Your Dream", and "American Song."

SURF CHAIR PROGRAM
Beach Accessible Wheelchairs for mobility/limited individuals of all ages. Now "Surf Chairs" can provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the surf and sand.

Reservations  (Strongly Encouraged)

- Reservations can made made at 609-554-0352 any time of the year.

- Chair can be reserved for up to 1 week (Saturday - Friday) or can be used on daily basis.

- No charge for use. Donations towards program accepted. 

- Weekly Delivery (No Charge. Sunday morning for deliveries and Friday evening for pick-up.

- No same day deliveries.

- Must have van, larger SUV, or pick up truck to transport (Recommend bringing your own bungee cords)

- Both adult and child size chairs available. 

- Failure to pick up the chair within 24 hours of the initial reservation date will result in the cancellation of the reservation.
 

SHUTTLE CHAIRS

Beach Accessible Wheelchairs (Surf Chairs) are located at the following life guard stations: 1st Street, 12th Street, 34th Street, 59th Street - All these locations have public restrooms)

These chairs are used for shuttling a person to your spot on the beach, transfer them to a regular chair, and returning the surf chair back the lifeguard station so another person can use. Once you are ready to leave the beach, you can bring the surf chair back from the lifeguard station to shuttle your person up and off the beach.

Shuttle chairs can only be used on that lifeguard station's beach i.e. you cannot use the chair to push a person 3 blocks down. Shuttle chairs must be returned quickly so others may use. There is no reservation needed for a shuttle chair. It is on a first come, first serve basis. You will need to have someone who can push the chair with the person in it. Lifeguards cannot push people to their spots.

HANDICAPPED BEACH ACCESS 

ADA-accessible beach-access mats stretching out onto the beach at Surf Road, Waverly Blvd., Stenton Place, 6th, 14th, 34th, and 58th Street beaches. Those paths lead to resting areas where those who use wheelchairs can enjoy the beach. Check out ocnj.us/handicapped-accessibility for updated locations. 

Accessibility measures include ADA compliant ramps over the boardwalk or bulkhead, hard-packed dune crossovers and plastic beach mats across portions of soft sand. Most beach accesses include plastic beach mats. 

ACCESSIBLE RESTROOMS

Public restrooms are located on the boardwalk at 1st, 6th, 10th, 11th, 12th Streets and Music Pier. Public Restrooms are also available at the 34th and 58th Street lifeguard stations.

REGISTRATION POLICY

All registration for activities are handled on a first come, first serve basis for residents and seasonal vacationers. Program announcements will be distributed through schools and at www.ocnj.us.

Any program requiring a deadline for registration will be noted on the program information flyer. A waiting list will be maintained for some programs. If an opening becomes available in a closed program that space will be offered to the first person on the waiting list.

The Ocean City Community Services Department and the Division of Recreation Programs reserves the right to cancel or make changes to any program due to lack of registration, inclement weather or reasons beyond our control. Programs, dates and times are subject to change due to the availability of facilities.

The Division of Recreation insists that a child should never be left at an activity or program before the person in charge arrives to accept responsibility for that participant. It is the obligation of the parent or guardian to be aware of program schedule and times.
