Helpful Guidelines

COURTROOM ETIQUETTE

  • Please arrive to court on time according to the scheduling court notice sent through the mail.  The Judge will take attendence at the beginning of each court session.  If you arrive late, please see a clerk in the Violations Bureau. 
     
  • Please check for your name on the court docket located outside the courtroom entrance and take a seat in the courtroom.  If you do not see your name, please see a clerk in the Violations Bureau. 
     
  • The courtroom, violation bureau, and lobby area have security cameras monitored by the police deparment at all times.  All persons entering the building are subject to search.  Illegal weapons will be confiscated by a police officer. 
     
  • Absolutely, NO CELL PHONE USE in the courtroom and violations bureau.  Please silence your ringer. 
     
  • The Judge and Prosecutor will address the courtroom as to the procedure for the session.  We ask for your patience as all cases are handled in a timely fashion.  Please notify a clerk of any special circumstances.

  • All meters read the hours of operation or signs are posted at all street ends.

  • Make checks or money orders payable to Ocean City Municipal Court.  Credit cards are accepted at the Violations Bureau window.  We will not accept credit card payments over the phone.

Plea by mail form

All parking offenses and eligible traffic offenses can be contested via a Plea by Mail.  Please contact the Municipal Court to inquire about the Plea by Mail process or email us at MunicipalCourt@ocnj.us . Download a PLEA BY MAIL FORM.

Parking and ParkMobile Information

If you receive an overtime parking meter ticket while using ParkMobile and believe it was issued in error, you can contact the municipal court during operating hours at 609-525-9386 or email the municipalcourt@ocnj.us. The municipal court has a procedure in place to assist in filing this claim. Please have ready your ParkMobile history reflecting the payment transaction with the zone and tag of vehicle ticketed during the time of issuance of the overtime meter parking ticket.

Financial Questionnaire for Public Defender and Payment Plans

If you wish to apply for a public defender, a financial questionnaire must be completed for the judge to review to determine eligibility per the Municipal Public Defender Law (N.J.S.A. 2B:24-1 to -17).  Please complete this Financial Questionnaire to establish indigency prior to your schedule court appearance and return via email at MunicipalCourt@ocnj.us or fax to 609-399-9391.
