Dear Friends,
With the warming temperatures, our Fire Department has been called to many properties where water is flowing from pipes that have frozen and burst.
If you see or suspect a water leak, please report it promptly by calling Ocean City dispatch’s non-emergency numbers at (609) 399-9111 or (609) 525-9122.
The Fire Department (OCFD) and Police Department (OCPD) are committed to minimizing property damage caused by water leaks. Upon receiving a report, emergency personnel will respond to assess the situation and, when possible, take actions to limit further damage. Emergency calls for service will continue to take precedence over public service calls such as water leaks. Homeowners are also encouraged to contact a qualified plumber or contractor to make emergency repairs.
When responding to water-leak incidents, the OCFD will attempt to:
Once water service has been shut off, residents are required to contact New Jersey American Water Company at 800-272-1325 to have water service restored. Property owners may also contact New Jersey American Water directly at any time to report water service issues. Please know that the OCFD cannot restore or turn water service back on to a property.
If owner contact information is available, the Fire Department will attempt to notify homeowners of water leaks or hazardous conditions discovered during an emergency response. But homeowner contact information is not always available.
With so many homes potentially affected, it’s important to look out for your neighbors to make sure their properties are OK.
Warm regards,
Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
