Ocean City seeks volunteers to fill two seats as alternates on the Environmental Commission.
Meetings are typically held on the second Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Howard S. Stainton Senior Center. Alternate members serve a two-year term.
The Environmental Commission serves the following purposes:
- To protect, develop or promote use of natural resources, including water resources, located within territorial limits of the City of Ocean City.
- Conduct research into the use and possible use of open land areas of the City and may coordinate the activities of unofficial bodies organized for similar purposes, and may advertise, prepare, print, and distribute books, maps, charts, plans and pamphlets which in its judgment it deems necessary for its purpose;
- Keep an index of all open space areas, publicly or privately owned, including open marshland, swamps and other wetlands, in order to obtain information on the proper use of such area and may from time to time recommend to the City’s Planning Board plans and programs for inclusion in the Master Plan and the development and use of such areas;
- Under certain circumstances, review applications before the Planning Board and Zoning Board and provide input and recommendations to those Boards.
