Martin Luther King Community Service Award Nomination

Ocean City annually honors a resident of Ocean City with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Service Award. This award is given to someone who exemplifies the philosophy and ideas of the late Dr. King, who worked to advance civil rights, equal education, labor rights, voter rights and who fought racial inequality through non-violence and civil disobedience.

The award particularly emphasizes volunteer activity and service to the people and Ocean City community by a person outside of a work setting for a minimum of two years. Ocean City is now seeking nominations for the 2024 award. A committee appointed by the Department of Community Services will select the award recipient and finalists from the nominations.

The nominee and nominator will be notified by December 15, 2023 and honored on January 15, 2024 during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ceremony at the Ocean City Music Pier. The ceremony starts at 12 p.m.

Nominations must be submitted no later than December 8, 2023.

*In no more than 1,000 words, please explain how the nominee has exemplified the ideals and teaching of Dr. King by answering the following three questions. Remember that the award recognizes volunteer activity and community service to the people and the City of Ocean City outside of a work setting. What volunteer activities and services has the nominee engaged in and how has it benefited the residents and City of Ocean City? How has Dr. King’s ideals impacted the nominee’s personal and community service achievements? How does the nominee exemplify the ideas of Dr. King and his commitment to positive relationships between different racial, ethnic and cultural communities?
