Dear Friends,

Northeast winds are not letting up and are only expected to get stronger throughout the day and into tomorrow. The National Weather Service is predicting significant coastal flooding.

Please take this warning seriously and don’t be caught off-guard. The next high tide will be just before 2 p.m. today. Be prepared to move cars from low-lying streets this morning. Parking at all of our municipal lots will be free, and parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora.

It’s a good day to stay off the roads to keep yourself and your vehicles safe. Never drive through flooded streets – for your own sake and to protect properties that can be damaged by wakes generated by passing cars. Our Public Works team has placed barriers to block access to flood-prone streets. Police will be enforcing laws against this reckless driving.

At this time, the tides are expected to peak on Monday afternoon and not begin to fall back to normal levels until Wednesday.

I hope you can take the time to check on friends and neighbors to make sure they’re OK and have what they need. I will provide further updates in the coming days and share any announcements from the school district about potential schedule changes.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
