Dear Friends,

I want to thank everybody who participated in this morning’s virtual town hall meeting on the city’s flood mitigation plans. I appreciate the hard work that Carol Beske, ACT Engineers and Business Administrator/Municipal Engineer George Savastano put into the presentation. I also want to thank City Council, the Ocean City Flooding group’s Suzanne Hornick and Fairness in Taxes President Dave Breeden for their input.

Anybody who was unable to watch, can see a copy of the informational slides here, and video of the entire presentation and Q&A will be posted to the same page later today. Comcast subscribers in Ocean City can also watch the presentation on OCTV-97 at 10 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 6), 9:30 p.m. Monday (Dec. 7) and 7 p.m. Tuesday (Dec. 8).

Flooding is an issue that affects everybody in Ocean City in some way, and the city remains fully committed to providing relief to all areas of the island. We will never be able to stop all flooding, but I believe we can make a significant difference in the quality of life for those who live in flood-prone neighborhoods. I also want to reassure everybody that this will be an ongoing mission – we will always be prepared to maintain and improve upon the work we have completed.

I hope everybody takes an interest in our plans. If you have questions or comments, you can always contact me at mayor@ocnj.us, Business Administrator George Savastano at gsavastano@ocnj.us or Public Information Officer Doug Bergen at dbergen@ocnj.us. We will make sure a representative of the city responds to your questions and concerns.

Warm regards,

Jay A. Gillian
Mayor
