The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) is replacing/rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue; and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.

By the end of this week (Oct. 9), the contractor will have slip-lined a 500-foot-long segment of new 16" diameter HDPE pipe through the existing 20" diameter DIP pipe fromthe pit located at the intersection of 31st Street and Bay Avenue to the tie-in pit on 31st Street between Haven and Simpson Avenues. Over this weekend, both pits shall remain open and secured. During the weekend, Bay Avenue will be opened to traffic with lane shifts around the pit at 31st Street; 31st Street will be closed, except for local traffic, between Bay and Haven avenues.

Next week, the contractor is scheduled to complete work in the tie-in pit, after which the pit will be backfilled and temporary paved. The Contractor is then planning on excavating a pit on Bay Avenue a distance of 1,000 feet north of 31st Street so as to enable the slip-lining of the existing 20" DIP pipe going northward on Bay Avenue. Lastly, Video Pipe Services (VPS) will continue to clean the existing 20" DIP pipe on Bay Avenue all the way up to 8th Street.

Once work has been completed on 31st Street, it will be reopened to traffic. Traffic on Bay Avenue will be restricted to local traffic only between 34th and 24th Streets, with a hard detour in the immediate vicinity of the slip-lining work. Traffic around the VPS trucks will be diverted with lane shifts.
