City of Ocean City, NJ - Office of Emergency Management

Special Weather Statement:

6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020

The National Weather Service has extended its Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean City through 2 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 20, 2020).

Steady northeast winds gusting up to 35 mph and higher-than-normal new moon tides are predicted to combine to cause minor flooding over several tide cycles through the weekend and into Monday. The advisory is likely to be extended through Monday.

Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side of Ocean City at the following times:

  • 10:38 p.m. Saturday (5.5 feet)

  • 11:10 a.m. Sunday (5.8 feet)

  • 11:30 p.m. Sunday (5.4 feet)

  • 12:03 p.m. Monday (6 feet)

By comparison, Friday evening's tide level peaked at 5.54 feet and Saturday morning's at 5.82 feet. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare these predictions to other recent and historic tide levels.

Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience tidal flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.

For Police & Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111.
