The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) is replacing/rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue; and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.

Work for March 9-13:

As of the end of the day Friday (3/6/20), the contractor will have installed PVC pipe, backfilled and temporary paved from the southern terminus of the project on 31st Street going northward to the intersection of 13th Street and Bay Avenue, and from the northern terminus of the project near 8th Street, going southward to the north side of the 9th Street and Bay Avenue intersection.

Starting Monday (3/9/20), the contractor's south crew will be progressing with work going northward to 12th Street. The contractor's north crew will be progressing southward across 9th Street.

Traffic:

Over the weekend, (3/7/20 – 3/8/20), two lanes of traffic will be open on Bay Avenue.

31st Street is closed to traffic between Simpson and Haven Avenues for the indefinite future.

Next week, Bay Avenue will be open to local traffic only from 14th Street to 8th Street with the added restrictions that both north and south turns onto Bay Avenue from 9th Street will be eliminated, and that traffic along 9th Street will be funneled through marked lane shifts while work is ongoing. The traffic lights will be flashing yellow in the east/west direction at the Bay/9th intersection and there will be two police officers assigned at this location.
