July 18, 2026: As of early Saturday morning, sand-pumping operations were approaching the Third Street jetty. The beach entrances at Second Street, Pennlyn Place, Delancey Place and Third Street are closed. The beaches from First Street to St. Charles Place are open with two lifeguarded areas open for swimming (sand ramps lead to one of the swimming areas). The beaches at Park Place, Fourth Street and Brighton Place are open to beachgoers and swimmers.

The work area is expected be extended at some point this weekend — with beaches likely closed in a work area from approximately Second Street to Fourth Street.

The beach entrance at Morningside Road has reopened, and the city is working to smooth out an ADA-compliant path adjacent to the vehicle access mats. Please keep this area clear of bikes and strollers so the contractor will have access for maintenance deliveries during the project.

In the first stage of the project, work is proceeding southward toward 12th Street. When that is complete, work will move northward toward Great Egg Harbor Inlet. Approximately 1,000 feet of beach (two blocks) surrounding the immediate work area will be closed to public access at any time. Sand-pumping operations will continue 24 hours a day for the duration of the project. Sand ramps will be constructed over the pipeline at all beach entrances as work progresses down the beach.

All projected timelines are subject to weather delays, equipment and logistics issues, and multiple other factors. Please check back regularly for updates.
