July 16, 2026: Sand-pumping operations have reached Second Street as of Thursday morning (July 16). Beaches covering a work area from the First Street jetty to the Third Street jetty remain closed. These include the guarded beaches at St. Charles Place and Pennlyn Place. Pending uninterrupted work on Thursday, the beaches from First Street to Second Street will reopen sometime on Friday (July 17). At that time, the work area will be extended to Fourth Street (with beaches closed in a work area from Second Street to Fourth Street).

Guarded beaches north of the First Street jetty (Stenton, North Street) and south of the Third Street jetty (Park Place, Brighton) are open to swimmers on Thursday. The OCBP plans to reopen a guarded area between First Street and Second Street to swimmers on Friday. The guarded beach at Brighton Place will remain open on Friday (while the beach at Park Place is closed).

In the first stage of the project, work is proceeding southward toward 12th Street. When that is complete, work will move northward toward Great Egg Harbor Inlet. Approximately 1,000 feet of beach (two blocks) surrounding the immediate work area will be closed to public access at any time. Sand-pumping operations will continue 24 hours a day for the duration of the project. Sand ramps will be constructed over the pipeline at all beach entrances as work progresses down the beach.
