Coastal Flood Warning in Effect Through Friday

Special Weather Statement:

10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2026  

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Warning in effect for Ocean City from 4 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 23) through 2 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 26). Rip Current, Wind and High Surf advisories also will be in effect during this time.

A slow-moving coastal storm with sustained northeast winds of 30 to 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph will cause minor to moderate coastal flooding through high-tide cycles over the course of at least three more days. Rainfall during this period could contribute to flooding conditions.

Water levels are predicted to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at the following times:

  • 6:48 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23: “Moderate” tidal flooding at 6.4 feet MLW predicted
  • 7:14 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 24: “Minor” tidal flooding at 6.1 feet MLW predicted
  • 7:31 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24: “Moderate” tidal flooding at 6.5 feet MLW predicted
  • 7:53 a.m. Friday, Sept. 25: “Moderate” tidal flooding at 6.5 feet MLW predicted
  • 8:11 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25: “Moderate” tidal flooding at 6.7 feet MLW predicted

By comparison, water levels reached 6.95 feet MLW during a nor’easter on Columbus Day Weekend (Oct. 12-13, 2025) last year. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare these predictions to other recent and historic tide levels.

Residents should be prepared to monitor conditions and to move vehicles to safe places well in advance of these high tides. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking will be free in municipal lots in the city through Friday. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora.

Residents should take the time to secure loose items and furniture on their properties. Contractors should make sure job sites are secure. Boat owners along exposed bayfront should consider taking their boats out of the water or checking lines and bilge pumps.

For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never drive on any street covered by water. Please do not disregard barricades on flooded streets.
