New Jersey American Water's qualified contractor, CDM Smith, will begin conducting scheduled service line inspections in Ocean City on Tuesday, Sept. 15, as part of its Lead Service Line Replacement Program. Appointments are expected to remain available through at least the end of October, weather permitting.

CDM Smith previously conducted service line identification work in Ocean City in 2025. This upcoming appointment period provides another opportunity for customers to participate before seasonal conditions limit inspection work and before the next phase of program activities begins.

These inspections support New Jersey’s requirement that water utilities identify and replace lead and galvanized steel service lines by 2031. Because appointments are not limited to a specific neighborhood, residents may see authorized CDM Smith staff throughout Ocean City as inspections are completed. Customers may also identify their own water service line material by completing a short survey at njamwater.com/leadsurvey.

As a reminder, CDM Smith field staff will carry official company photo identification and wear logoed, high-visibility vests. All inspections are conducted at no cost, and staff will never request payment or personal financial information.
