Clean Ocean Action Beach Sweep
Add to Calendar

Oct 23, 2021 at 9:00 AM - Oct 23, 2021 at 12:30 PM

The event is from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm Rain or Shine.

We will be set up in front of the Music Pier, as in the past, for you to register and pick up your supplies i.e. gloves, trash & recycling bags and data cards.

You may arrive when it is convenient for you - anytime during that time frame.  If you are a group – please note that one ‘representative’ can register and get the supplies for everyone in the group, if you choose to.

Anyone who would like to pre-register and pick up their supplies on Friday the 22nd – you are welcome to come to the Henry Knight Building between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.  We are located at 115 12th Street / the corner of 12th & Haven Avenue.  The receptionist at the front desk will direct you to Victoria  – who will be happy to register you and give you your supplies so you’re ready to hit the sand running Saturday morning!

Once you have registered and picked up your supplies – simply head to your beach and begin your clean up. We ask that when you enter your beach that you clean a half block north & a half block south of your street entry point.  If time and energy allows & you see a need – you are certainly welcome to go further!

You will be given black bags and clear bags.  Black is for trash – clear is for recyclables.  Once you have finished your ‘sweep’ simply leave your bags on the beach.  You do not need to bring them up to the street end or boardwalk.  There will be Public Works staff driving the beach, collecting the bags and any other debris you leave for them and/or they come upon.

You will also receive a Data Card that we ask you complete and return.  You simply ‘tick’ off the items you find, total the numbers and return the card either to us at the Music Pier on Saturday, by mail to the address on the card or by email to me at your convenience.  The data is then forward to Clean Ocean Action and New Jersey Clean Communities to be used to support their dedication to awareness and education and obtain funding for their purpose of trying to prevent the further pollution of our beaches and waterways.

Please remember:

STAY OFF THE DUNES No one is permitted to go into the dune grass.  If you can collect whatever it may be you see, by reaching from the outside, that’s fine.  But do not go on the dune itself.  If there is something to be collected that you cannot reach – let us know the location and we will see that DPW staff retrieves it .

BE SAFE Do not pick up anything dangerous, hazardous, decaying or extremely heavy.  Let us know what it is you found and the location and again, DPW staff will take care of collecting it.
