Special Weather Statement:
4 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, 2018

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning in effect for Ocean City from 9 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 3) through 7 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 4).  Residents and visitors are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts and conditions during this period.

The latest NWS forecast calls for 6 to 10 inches of snow accumulation with higher amounts possible. Please be advised that West Avenue is a designated Snow Emergency Route and parking is prohibited on both sides of the street when the road is covered by snow.

Extreme cold with wind chill values below zero are predicted throughout the week. Make sure thermostat settings in unoccupied homes are above 60 degrees, and please check on neighboring homes for frozen pipes. High winds gusting to 50 mph are expected to blow from the northeast on Wednesday night before shifting to the northwest on Thursday.

A Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect tomorrow morning with a chance of minor street flooding in the hours around high tide at 9:42 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 4). Residents on streets that typically experience flooding should be prepared to move vehicles to higher ground. The forecast models predict a tide of 6 feet on the mean low water (MLLW) scale. See ocnj.us/octides for comparisons.

The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).

Loose objects on your property should be brought inside or secured. All contractors are asked to secure job sites. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.

Please make sure all battery-powered communication devices are charged in advance of any potential power outage. Write down the following emergency contact numbers for local utility companies should you experience outages or other problems during the upcoming storm:
