Date: October 11, 2017

The fifth and final phase of a multi-year Ocean City Boardwalk reconstruction project will begin on Monday, Oct. 16. Contractors will demolish and replace the entire substructure and decking between 10th Street and 12th Street.

The boardwalk will be closed between 10th Street and 11th Street as of Oct. 16. The entire project project area between 10th Street and 12th Street will close as of Monday, Oct. 23. The boardwalk entrance at 10th Street will be closed as part of the work, but access to all stores between Ninth Street and 10th Street will remain open. The boardwalk entrance at 12th Street will remain open.

Pedestrians and cyclists traveling the length of the boardwalk will be detoured at Ninth Street (to Ocean Avenue) and back onto 12th Street.

The work is part of a five-year project to completely replace the boardwalk between Fifth Street and 12th Street. The project is expected to be complete by the end of March 2018.

Fred M. Schiavone Construction, the contractor for three other phases of the project, has a $2.9 million contract to complete the work. The project calls for the use southern yellow pine for the decking. Sections of decking are being constructed off-site.
