Night in Venice Mugs Feature Old Bridge & New Super Span

Date: July 18, 2012

This year’s Night in Venice commemorative mugs will feature illustrations of one of the City’s old bridges and the new super span that now accommodates traffic on the Causeway between Ocean City and Somers Point.

The mugs will serve a double purpose as a remembrance of the resort’s 58thAnnual Night In Venice Celebration and as a souvenir of the monumental new and nostalgic old construction.

The collector’s item mugs will be given to all who enter boats and homes in the bay front spectacular set for Sat., July 28 at 6 p.m. The Parade begins at the Longport Bridge and concludes at Tennessee Ave. and the Bay.

The Artwork for the old bridge is the work of Somers Point artist and gallery owner, Kathy Arleth. The line drawing of the new construction is by Juliann Baker, an Ocean City High School student, who has also created the prize winning drawing that will appear on Ocean City’s 2013 First Night button. The artwork by Arleth has both Ocean City and Somers Point signs on the old bridge.

Entries are being taken for the Night In Venice Boat, Home and Condo competitions until 4:30pm Friday, July 27th. Once again all boat entrants will receive a $50 gas card and have a photo of their boat taken in the Parade. Prizes will be awarded in various categories in both the boat and home divisions.

Those homeowners who register online may pick up their mugs at the City Hall Information Desk, 9thStreet entrance to the building, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mon.- Fri. Boat owners will receive their mugs at the Captain’s Meeting.
