Playground Activities - 2019

PLAYGROUND ACTIVITIES

A supervised program for children to play games and participate in arts & crafts. Tons of games, crafts and a different theme for every week!
AGES: 4 (by 6/20/19) to 8

An introductory program in which your child will play a variety of sports and games.

This class is a dance based and high energy conditioning fitness class. This class is designed to maintain strength and flexibility conditioning as a vital portion that is necessary in practicing safe tumbling.

Fun N' Fitness Summer Camp - 2019

FUN N’ FITNESS SUMMER CAMP

 The Aquatic & Fitness Summer Camp staff is hoping to see you and your child this summer. We are offering the Fun N’ Fitness Summer Camp for ages 4 to 10 year olds. Camp will be full of splashing fun, lots of glue, and fitness challenges. The children will be kept busy in the morning program with fun sports and games, a swim lesson and pool playtime. Later we fuel up with a snack and make a crafty momento to take home each day of camp.Camp will provide outdoor activities, swim lessons and a trip once a session. Qualified camp counselors guide you through many facets of Fun-N-Fitness.

Swim Lessons - 2019

AQUATIC AND FITNESS CENTER LEARN TO SWIM

Registration is limited. Registration for summer swim lessons begins June 1 Online or in person at the Aquatic & Fitness Center, 1735 Simpson Ave.

The American Red Cross Learn to Swim program teaches youngsters to swim and be safe in, on and around water. We teach 5 progressive levels. Starting with Level I where the most (elementary) beginning swimming skills are taught, thru Level 5 refining the competitive strokes. 

PARENT & TOT
6 months - 3 1/2 years
Parents participation is required. This class is designed to introduce and acclimate your young child to the water.

Willie Fannon - Has been actively Skateboarding since the age of 9. 31 yrs of experience. Has a background in Street Skating with a new found love of Skating Skateparks. Has Skated all over the country and has been teaching people how to skate for over 10 years. In addition to being a Skateboarding Instructor, Willie also teaches people how to Surf and Paddleboard. Willie hopes to see you at the Ocean City Skatepark!!!

Soccer Camp - 2019

The Ocean City Nor’easters are proud to be hosting summer camps in Ocean City NJ. The Nor’easters have prepared the curriculum and are ready to host the best soccer camps the shore area has seen. The Nor’easters are putting on a Mini Kickers program for players aged 4-7 to introduce them to soccer with fun games and a Half Day camp for players aged 7-14. The camps in the past have been seen as a fun way to get into soccer as well as a great way to get a lot of touches in a fun atmosphere for the more experienced players.

Field Hockey Camp - 2019

SANDY STICKS GIRLS FIELD HOCKEY CAMP

Sandy Sticks Field Hockey Camp offers an outstanding curriculum, designed to improve the skills of young players. Campers develop their skills in a supportive and inspirational atmosphere, while being challenged daily to do their best.
Campers are grouped by age and years of experience, and coached by some of the best area coaches, collegiate players, current field hockey league officials, and top high school athletes. A low camper to coach ratio is one of the many positives at Sandy Sticks.

Jr. Guard Competition Team is a program geared toward rescuing skills and competition. This is for the junior who has greater water skills, strong swimming and is looking to perfect the sport of surf racing.

Requirements:
Ages 11-12: Swim 300 meters 8:00 or less - run 1/2 mile 4:30 or less
Ages 13-15: Swim 300 meters 7:30 or less - run 1/2 mile in 4:15 or less
(Additional testing will be in the 100 meter swim and 100 meter dash)

Wetlands Wonders +

Discover the unique habitat of the marsh and about the wonders of the wetlands, from the stinky mud to the birds that fly above it. Understand the important role the wetlands play as part of New Jersey's coast. Do experiments, play games, and become a scientific observer all while developing an appreciation of our local marshland. On Thursday, visit the Cape May County Zoo for an up close look at many marshland creatures. Week ends with a trip into the marshes: Campers may get messy with experiments and on field trip. Old clothes and shoes encouraged.

Got Backbone? +

This camp will increase the camper's knowledge of vertebrates and invertebrates. Learn the characteristics of each and compare their differences and similarities. Examine a fish and an octopus. Create your own model of a backbone. On Thursday, visit the Cape May County Zoo to look for animals with/without backbones.

Exploring the Beaches +
Discover the wonderful ecosystem of the beach! Learn what animals you can see on the beaches of Ocean City! What will you find lurking when we take a field trip to the beach? Experience a Bayside Camp sandcastle contest. Explore marine biology and animals that may be swimming nearby. Find out why we have tides that make the ocean come in and go out every day. Friday, July 5th will be a "beach day". Drop off location TBD.
 

Sailing Adventure Camp (Ages 8-12)
Sail away with Bayside and study the history and physics of how a sailboat works. Learn knot tying along with parts of a sailboat! Have fun playing nautical games and end up sailing with the sailing foundation.

This is For The Birds +

Campers will enjoy birdwatching with binoculars and will learn how to identify different species. Discover how shore and backyard birds are similar and different. Identify the special adaptations birds have that allow them to survive in different habitats. Make your own birdfeeder to take home or leave at the Bayside Center. Week ends with a trip to a bird rookery.

 

Crabby Catchers +

Learn the fundamentals of crabbing in southern NJ bays. Cast your nets and traps to see just how many you can catch! Bayside will supply gear to help catch crabs, but if campers would like to bring some of his or her own gear, he/she is more than welcome to do so. Field trip this week will be a visit to Fun Time Crabbing.

Boardwalk Sci./Action, Amusements, Adventure! +

From K'Nex and Legos to Kingda Ka and Space Mountain, our campers will be catapulted into adventure! Campers will construct scaled mini attractions that will feature the greatness of force, motion and energy. We will examine "Top Lists" and fun filled facts and info regarding what it truly takes to make some of the most awesome, jaw dropping and thrilling rides and attractions in the entire world. We will cap it off with a walking trip to the Ocean City boardwalk's Go-Carts on Thursday, July 18.

Ways of Weather

Young weather enthusiasts will learn how weather works. We will study weather tools, clouds, temperature and storms. Create models of a tornado and snowflake. Make a rain gauge or a windsock. Enjoy a presentation from a local meteorologist.

What say you matey! Take a trip back to the Golden age of Piracy and the Spanish Main. Receive your pirate name, jog on board, construct your pirate flag, pick your animal and make a treasure map! Learn about some of the most famous pirates in history and maybe stage a mutiny! Will there be a treasure in the chest this year? Lots of adventures with this experience. Will take a pirate voyage aboard the Sea Dragon

Cool Chemistry

What are matter, density, salinity, reactants, solutions, mixtures and solvents? What do pennies and toothpicks have to do with chemistry? Recreate Frankenstein's hand, fizzy airbags and more in this exploration of science, matter and the senses.

Food Science in Ocean City: The Science of Making & Baking Desserts +

Did you know that baking is actually a chemical reaction? When you add heat to something and it changes, we call this an endothermic reaction. So, baking is chemistry in the kitchen! Campers will learn the basics of baking and what chemical procedures (AKA recipes) are used in making yummy desserts. Kids will experiment with how to change variables in some of the experiments in the week and will be examining (tasting) each result.

Slime, Goo and Poison Too

The title tells it all! Spend a week getting down and dirty in the world of toxicology of slime, goo and chemicals. Conduct experiments as you learn all about how animal toxicology is needed to ensure and help human and animal health and protection of Earth's habitat. Note: campers may get messy during the experiments, wear old "used" clothing.

A Bug's Life

Insects are fascinating creatures. Learn about body parts, life cycles, and habits of various bugs. Investigate the monarch butterfly's miraculous migration. See how you compare to the amazing feats many insects possess. Learn about beekeeping and enjoy some local honey.

Learn all about the life cycle of plants. Observe seeds sprouting, experiment with water routes, and identify the parts of a plant. Examine the majestic sunflower and other various flower and vegetable plants. Visit a nursery and paint a pot to bring a plant home in.

Learn to Sail - 2019

LEARN TO SAIL ON THE BAY

The Ocean City Sailing Foundation is offering sailing lessons to Juniors and Adults.
Classes are held at the Bayside Center, 520 Bay Avenue, starting June 24 through August 24.
Our OCSF mission is “to promote sailing to youth and families in the Greater Ocean City area by providing safe, affordable sailing instruction and sailing opportunities.” All instructors are US Sailing Level One certified.  Most classes have a student to instructor ratio of 4:1.
Four half-day lessons cost is $275. Family discounts are available.  Private lessons are also available each day from 4:30pm to 6:30pm, cost is $150 for up to three students. There is also a 2 hour "Introduction to Sailing" session $120. Youth students must be eight years of age and must be able to swim.

CSI Camp

Monday & Tuesday, August 19 & 20, 2019

This full day educational class is limited to 6th-12th grade students who have an interest in law enforcement or related forensic sciences. Students will learn general problem-solving skills and how physics, geometry, triangles and the Pythagorean theorem; simple algebraic math, sin/cosine problems relating to blood splatter and bullet trajectory, and other science disciplines assist in solving a crime scene. You will learn how to identify and then process a mock crime scene by collecting evidence using the most up-to-date modern techniques. Class is designed to be challenging while having fun solving the crime. This class is taught by retired Captain Sean Clancy formerly of the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.

Pickleball

Facility & Hours

Pickleball is a fun game that is played on a badminton court with the net lowered to 34 inches at the center. It is played with a perforated plastic baseball (similar to a whiffle ball) and wood or composite paddles. It is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players.

Beach Accessible Wheelchairs
Sports & Civic Center, 6th & Boardwalk
Hours: 9am- 5pm
Beach accessible program for mobility/limited individuals of all ages. Now “Surf Chairs” can provide an opportunity for everyone to enjoy the surf and sand. Must use from 6th St.pick up facility or have large vehicle to transport.
AVAILABILITY:  Memorial Day – Labor Day

HANDICAPPED BEACH ACCESS & RESTROOMS
Handicapped beach access is provided at Stenton Place, 1st, Pennlyn, 3rd, Park Place, 4th, Brighton Place, 5th, 6th, Music Pier, 11th-18th, 20th, 26th, 35th - 46th, 50th-59th Streets.
Direct access at 23rd, 29th, 30th, 34th, 48th, 57th Streets and Morningside.
Accessible bathrooms are located on the Boardwalk at 
Moorlyn Terrace, 1st, 6th,11th and 12th Streets.
