Beach Fees


Beach Tags are required for all beachgoers age 12 & up and are in effect
from June 7, 2014 thru September 1, 2014




Weekly and Daily Tags are also available from beach tag staff stationed on beach access ramps and on beaches. Cash only.

2014 beach tags are on sale NOW at the following locations:

Aquatic & Fitness Center, 1735 Simpson Avenue
Monday thru Friday 9:00am to 9:00pm,
Saturday and Sunday 9:00am to 6:00pm

Roy Gillian Welcome Center, Route 52 Causeway
Monday thru Saturday, 9:00am to 4:30pm.
Sunday 9:00am to 2:00pm

  • Beach tags may be provided free (fee) to Active Military personnel and Veterans of the following branches of Service:  United States Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps, as well as members of the United States Coast Guard and the New Jersey National Guard.
Active Military:
  • Military personnel, spouse/civil union partner, and dependent children over the age of twelve (12)
  • Qualifying Active Military personnel must be present at the time of request
  • Proper identification (ie:military ID) must be presented
  • Completion of City of Ocean City Beach Tag tracking form
  • One set of beach tags will be issued per beach season
  • Any individual who has served and was released through Honorable Discharge with at least 90-days active duty or released from active duty by reason of a service-incurred injury or disability
  • Qualifying Veteran must be present at the time of request
  • Proper identification (ie: discharge papers DD214) must be presented
  • Completion of City of Ocean City Beach Tag tracking form
  • One beach tag will be issued per beach season
Active Military and Veteran beach tags will be available for pick-up at City Hall, 7 days a week, Monday thru Friday 9am to 4pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am to 4pm.
Active Military and Veteran beach tags provided free (no fee) is permitted by New Jersey State law, and under City of Ocean City Code (Chapter 30, Section 3) as amended.
   Active military and Veteran beach tags are not transferrable.  Beach tags are in effect beginning June 7, 2014 thru Labor Day.

  • Caution:  Beach tags may come off bathing suits if worn in the ocean.
  • Please be advised to display a counterfeit or forged beach tags is a third degree crime and offenders will be prosecuted.

Why Beach tags?

Beach tags are required in most municipalities along the New Jersey coastline.  They are a user fee to help offset the local municipalities cost of maintaining their beaches and providing lifeguards and other services such as trash removal, beach cleaning and the purchase of needed equipment and police protection.

The cost of these items and all of the other beach benefits are supported by this user fee known as the beach tag.  The beach fee program was approved by the residents of Ocean City in 1976 and continued since that time to help offset all the costs associated with the beach.
